Seeking Justice for Residents of Belleza Blue in Mundhwa, Pune
Dear Prime Minister,
This is an open letter of protest on behalf of the 54 families who are getting displaced from their homes in Keshavnagar, Mundhwa, Pune. We request four specific actions from your office:
- Instruct district administration to provide temporary relief to 54 families living in Belleza Blue in Keshavnagar, Mundhwa, Pune from the impending eviction
- Instruct builder to provide another similar flat at no cost to each family
- Instruct builder to provide free temporary accommodation to each family until they are able to provide permanent accommodation
- Instruct local administration to pursue legal course of action against builder for duping 54 families
As background information for you: the Mundhwa gram panchayat had sanctioned for four floors, however, the builder openly flouted the rules and completed building of seven floors by 2009. A case was filed by the land owner against the builder in 2012 and the court issued an order on May 27, 2016 to demolish three illegal floors in each of the three buildings. Thereafter, the district administration sent a court order on June 13 asking the families to vacate houses by June 18.
We ask you a simple question – whose fault is it and who is being asked to pay the price?
We are shocked at the high court’s order which neither gives time for families to react nor penalizes the builder, who is the real offender. The people paying the price are the 54 families.
To reiterate, we seek justice for the 54 families who are the real victims. Earlier this year, we applauded the passage of the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA), we believe a stringent application of the bill can bring the much needed accountability, trust and transparency to the real estate sector. We are hopeful the families will be treated fairly by undertaking the actions we outlined above.
We thank you in advance.
