The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Mumbai police arrested builder, his son and partner in a cheating case pertaining to 2011 redevelopment project in JB Nagar in Andheri. EOW housing unit on Saturday arrested Govind Somani, his son Archit Somani and their partner Uday Surve under Maharashtra Ownership Flat Act (MOFA) and various sections of IPC for cheating, forgery. All three have been remanded in police custody till Tuesday.
The complainant alleged that in 2011 he booked two flats measuring around 1,500 square feet at a rate of Rs 9,750 per square feet in a redevelopment project of Regent Park at JB Nagar in Andheri. He allegedly paid a total sum of Rs 89 lakhs to Shubh Enterprises but the project was never completed hence he lodged a complaint of cheating against the directors of Shubh Enterprises.
the EOW had earlier arrested Surve (42) in October 2015 in a Rs 10 crore redevelopment fraud case and was charge sheeted. He also has 10 other cheating cases registered against him.
The EOW is probing alleged redevelopment fraud in which Surve and his aides—Govind Somani and Rajendra Shah—allegedly cheated nearly 2000 home-seekers of over Rs 100 crore, promising them flats in their projects. The partners , under the firm Shubh Enterprises, would undertake redevelopment of Mhada buildings and not complete the project. They also allegedly sold the flats to multiple buyers.
